Japan US Reaffirm Cooperation on N.Korea


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Kyo june 11 (qna) - japan has briefed the united states on the outcome of its government-level talks with north korea last month.

foreign ministry asian and oceanian affairs bureau chief junichi ihara met us special representative for north korea glyn davies in washington.



ihara says he explained how north korea has promised to conduct a full investigation on the fate of japanese abductees and other missing people who may have been kidnapped.

japan has agreed to ease some sanctions on the north once the investigation begins according to japan's (kyodo) news agency.



ihara told reporters that he had explained the agreement in great detail. he said us officials appear to have deepened their understanding of japan's position on north korea.



ihara noted that japan's policy of seeking a comprehensive resolution of the abduction issue and on pyongyang's nuclear and missile development programs remains unchanged.

the bureau chief added that japan and the us reaffirmed the importance of coordinating policies with south korea on the nuclear and missile issues. (qna)
