EU raises 500 mln euro for assistance to Ukraine


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The European Commission announced Tuesday that on behalf of the European Union it raised 500 million euro on the capital markets to fund the first loan tranche for Ukraine under the new Macro-Financial Assistance programme (MFAII). The proceeds of today's operation will be disbursed to Ukraine on 17 June, said the EU's executive body in a statement. Thirty percent of the bonds went to Asia, 60 percent to the eurozone and 10 percent to other European countries. From Europe, Germany had the highest allocation with 44 percent of all the bonds, followed by the Netherlands (eight percent), France (six percent), Switzerland (six percent), Britain (four percent) and Italy (two percent). In terms of investor type, 30 percent was allocated to official institutions/central banks, 59 percent to bank treasuries and 11 percent to fund managers. MFAII is supporting Ukraine with loans of up to one billion euro and is implemented in parallel with the already approved programme of 610 million (MFA I), totalling a combined amount of up to 1.61 billion euro. A first disbursement of 100 million euro under MFA I was made to Ukraine on 20 May.
