(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Second Arab-Euro Conference on Higher Education (AECHE) kicked off in Amman, Jordan, Tuesday, in the attendance of 200 university representatives who will discuss bi-regional cooperation.

The event is being organised jointly by the Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), the European University Association (EUA), University of Barcelona and the Association of Arab Universities (AARU).

University representatives from across Europe and the Arab world are discussing higher education development trends in both regions, particularly with regards to student and staff mobility and its relevance in intra-regional and bi-regional cooperation.

Themes covered include, internationalisation through regional cooperation and mobility programmes, the role of student and staff mobility in educating the citizens and employees of tomorrow, the development, management and strategic interest of joint degrees and the role of leadership in building institutional partnerships and incentivising student and staff mobility.

Princess Sumaya bint Al-Hussain said in an opening speech that the event is focusing on the encouragement of academic exchange and cooperation in scientific research, and producing graduates that identify with the importance of global citizenship.

Arab and European universities are working together to produce a workforce that is able to be more creative in the age of globalisation and telecommunications, through the exchange of visits and expertise.

Holding the second edition of the event in the Arab world - after Barcelona in 2013 - is important in order to assess the academic and scientific needs of both regions, said the EUA President Prof. Maria Helena Nazare.

The deputy chairman for planning, research and development of the Arab Open University in Kuwait Mustafa Ashwi is also taking part in the event.
