79 pct of Jordan's agriculture exports go to Gulf States


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Seventy-nine percent of Jordan's exports from fresh fruits and vegetables go to Gulf States, out of more than 44 countries around the world, a Jordanian agriculture official said Tuesday. The amount of fruits and fresh vegetables Jordan exported abroad during the first five months of 2014 reached around 373,000 tons with a total value estimated at about 215 million Jordanian dinars, Assistant Secretary General of the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture for marketing and information Salah Al-Tarawneh said in a statement. The official added exports for the same period last year reached around 331,000 tons, while last May alone the country's exports reached 75,700 tons of vegetables and fruits. Al-Tarawneh noted that the quantities exported went to more than 44 Arab and foreign countries, and 79 percent went to Gulf States, 11 percent to Iraq, while nine percent to Syria, and one percent to Lebanon. Al-Tarawneh pointed out that tomato crop ranked first and formed 67 percent of the total exports in vegetables.
