(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Preparations are being made to release Qatar's fourth National Human Development Report in October, with a focus on Right to Development, the Minister of Development Planning and Statistics H E Dr Saleh Mohamed Salim Al Nabit said yesterday.
Eleven local and international experts will contribute to the report, he told a press conference on the sidelines of a seminar on the right to development.
"We are collecting information as much as possible based on knowledge and experience to include in the report. We are also asking 11 experts to write background papers," he said.
Experts, including those from United Nations Development Programme, will contribute to the report. "A steering committee is managing the report and government and non-governmental initiatives contributing to the development will be considered by it," the Minister added.
Qatar's first report was on general aspects of development in 2006, sustainable development in 2009 and youth in 2012.
The fourth on the right to development will have seven components, including human development, development of Qatris and residents and people with special needs. The seminar at Four Seasons Hotel discussed the Right to Development and related issues. It gathered inputs from experts, academics, the private sector and civil society for the fourth report.
Sayed Aqa, UNDP Resident Representative in Abu Dhabi, said, "We see consequences of uneven development in the world. Balanced development is important. Qatar has done enough for the development of its people and the region." He said politics should be kept away from rights. "In some places, rights are mixed with politics. Rights of people are separate, and politics should be kept stay away from them."
Fateh Azzam, independent consultant, told the seminar said that development should be in all aspects. "Development is not only economic development, but also cultural political and social development. Everyone should be contributing and enjoying the development and everyone should enjoy dignity. Right to development cannot be achieved at the cost of social and civic and other rights."
A panel discussion was held on human rights-based approach to development in Qatar.
Jaber Al Howail, Legal Department Director, National Human Rights Commission, spoke about 'Knowing your rights', Dr Khaltam Al Ghanim, Professor of Sociology, Qatar University on 'Family and social cohesion', Dr Amal Al Malki, Director, Translation Institution, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, on 'Gender and development' and Dr Hayat Hajji, Manager, Al Noor Institute for the Blind, on 'People with disabilities and development.'
