Microsoft hits "home run" with new Surface

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Microsoft on tuesday unveiled its new surface pro 3 tablet pc in dubai saying it has scored a winner in the device that promises to ?truly? bridge the gap in the proliferation of mobility and tablets.

the redmond washington-headquartered technology bellwether handpicked the uae as one of the 31 markets — and the only one in the region — to launch the new device demonstrating its commitment and continued investments to the country.

two top officials of microsoft speaking to khaleej times before the press conference expressed confidence and excitement over the surface pro 3 saying that this will provide users the convenience and enjoyment of a tablet as well as the productivity and “serious work” of a full-fledged windows pc — without compromising on either’s performance.

“we are very excited about the growth [microsoft] has been experiencing here [in the region]; we continue to enjoy a very healthy position” said samer abu ltaif microsoft gulf’s regional general manager.

“this is not only in terms of the growth of our business but also on the growth of our impact [on users]”.

the surface pro 3 comes with a 12-inch cleartype full-hd display and is powered by a 4th-generation intel core processor and up to 8gb of ram. new accessories include an improved surface pro type cover that will switch the surface pro 3 from tablet to laptop mode in an angle most comfortable for the user. the surface pen with its pressure sensitivity allows a more natural writing experience. other optional accessories such as the docking station for surface pro 3 and surface ethernet adapter allow the device to fully harness the capabilities of a complete laptop.

“this version [of the surface] has been received very well since it was announced on may 20… reviews from fans enthusiasts and the media have been very favourable” said somanna palacanda business development director for surface. “i think we hit a home run here.”

palacanda who has been travelling extensively in the past couple of weeks demonstrating the surface pro 3 says that microsoft is targeting those who want to get things done in a “very productive and efficient manner”.

“we believe that the surface pro 3 gives you the duality of a modern touch interface and the usual uncompromising experiences with a laptop” he added.

“we really want to enable our customers to leverage technology in the way that technology can be a true competitive weapon… allowing them to reinvent and revolutionise” ltaif added.

localisation is also a focus for microsoft; aside from the over 250 localised apps available on the microsoft store palacanda says that a keyboard that supports arabic is coming soon “a new innovation for us”. he furthered that the more-than-250000 apps available revolve on the principle of focusing on the right apps and their quality.

later on tuesday following the unveiling to its partners and the media ltaif said that microsoft has invited 150 customers to be able to experience the surface pro 3 first-hand as well.

“for 25 years… we have taken a customer-centric approach and we listen and take feedback from them” he said. “[this launch] is a testimonial to the uae’s importance to microsoft.”
