a 24-year-old filipina maid who allegedly tried to steal more than dh100000 worth of jewellery pieces from her sponsor by smartly hiding them in her underwear and clothes was caught before leaving her employer’s house a court heard on tuesday.
she did not show up at the court of first instance for the first hearing. during investigation the maid claimed that she tried to steal as she wanted to run away from her egyptian sponsor and his wife who had been treating her badly.
a police corporal said they arrested the accused around 2.30pm on march 3 from her sponsor’s house in silicon oasis. “when we reached the apartment we found that the maid had been restrained in her room by her employer and prevented from leaving the house. they had suspected she stole their valuables and other belongings” the corporal said.
the officer said they did not find jewellery in her bag. a mobile phone and women’s clothes including a pair of pants and a shirt were first found in her bag which she admitted to have stolen. she denied there was anything else in her possession.
however jewellery like necklaces rings earrings and bracelets were found smartly hidden in her underwear by using an adhesive tape. she also hid some other valuables in her sanitary pads.
the officer described her as lookwing very scared and agitated at the time of her arrest.
the next hearing is on june 15.
