Saudi- Haia members cleared in death of 2 brothers

(MENAFN- Arab News) A riyadh criminal court has acquitted four members of the commission for the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice (haia) of causing the death of two brothers while chasing them last year on saudi national day.

nasser and saud al-qaws died in the aftermath of the incident which saw their vehicle fall from the king fahd overpass onto the road below.

the ruling was issued two weeks ago but reliable sources said that the family could still pursue a private rights case even though their public rights have been dismissed.

the family of the brothers were angry at the verdict but did not object to the ruling according to the source.

the family had accused the haia members of tampering with the official documents of the incident and trying to mislead investigators.

the driver of the haia patrol had admitted colliding with the victims' car three times before it rolled off the bridge.

the investigation and public prosecution bureau had listed 15 charges against the haia members.

the first defendant was accused of colliding with the other party's vehicle. the second defendant was accused of participating in the chase while the other four haia members were accused of trying to mislead investigators.

nasser was killed on the spot while saud died from his injuries hours after the funeral of his brother.
