(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Bank Muscat has launched an advisory forum for women entrepreneurs in Oman.
The Al Wathbah Businesswomen's Advisory Forum, launched by the bank's Al Wathbah SME department at the Bank Muscat head office on Tuesday, comprises a panel of advisers to counsel women entrepreneurs and help them develop businessleadership skills.
''Women entrepreneurs are changing the face of the global economy and Bank Muscat recognises this opportunity in Oman. Our main objective is to play an important role in filling in the gaps and empowering Omani businesswomen to help them chart successful ventures by providing the necessary guidelines and tools,'' said AbdulRazak Ali Issa, chief executive, Bank Muscat.
''The forum marks a clear progression of the well-defined strategy pursued by the bank in line with the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to support the SME sector and to strengthen its role in the economic development of Oman in general, with a focus on women's empowerment in particular,'' said Issa.
Speaking at a press conference, Ilham al Hamaid, AGM - SME credit, marketing and regional corporates, said, ''The primary objective of the forum is to create an atmosphere amenable for women to thrive in business and to further develop their economic potential.''
''Women-owned businesses in Oman can benefit from the forum, as also those running a home business and registered with the Al Wathbah Businesswomen's Forum,'' she added. Speaking to Muscat Daily on the motivating factor for the advisory drive, Ilham said, ''We founds gaps in the country on empowering women and this emerged from our focus group discussion. From the feedback we got from women entrepreneurs, we found they lacked three things - networking, advisory services and recognition.''
