China's exports surge, imports dip in May

(MENAFN) The Chinese General Administration of Customs said the country's exports surged in May, while imports contracted, indicating that securing trade targets remains a struggle, Xinhua reported. The world's second largest economy's exports increased 7 percent to USD195.4 billion last month on year, compared to a slight increase of 0.9 percent in April. Meanwhile, imports dipped 1.6 percent to USD159.5 billion, missing market forecasts of a 6 percent rise during the same month. Weak performance of imports was attributed to poor domestic demand and the recent strengthened oversight on financial activity, including using commodities as collateral.
