UAE- Water jet kills dockyard cleaner


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Police are investigating the incident to see if the company the man worked for was negligent in implementing prescribed safety measures for workers.

a dockyard cleaner died in a freak accident while cleaning the dock at khalid port in sharjah on monday. the 30-year-old bangladeshi identified as iqbal shaikh was hit by a powerful jet of water while operating the water hose. the streaming jet of water pounded him causing brain haemorrhage and near-instant death.

police are investigating the incident to see if the company the man worked for was negligent in implementing prescribed safety measures for workers.

in another incident in sharjah the same day two workers received first-degree burns. mohammed rashad a 46-year-old pakistani and mohamed sudhan a 30-year-old bangladeshi were injured while cleaning barrels of a chemical at a lubricant factory in al sajja. there was a sudden combustion causing the men to sustain burns. they have been admitted to al qasimi hospital.
