US likely to target banks dealing with Hezbollah - BDL Gov.

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon (BDL) Riad Salameh said Monday the recently-imposed US sanctions do not target the Lebanese banks, but rather the banks that helped finance the Lebanese group Hezbollah. The BDL has repeatedly cautioned the local banks against violating the banking laws or engaging in suspicious transactions such as money laundering or financing for militant groups, Salameh said in a TV interview. He noted that the investigative division acts promptly upon receiving any notification about suspicious transactions, he added. Earlier today the American Lebanese Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) organized a symposium on the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) with a view to promoting awareness among the Green Card holders in Lebanon about the provisions of the law.
