Ban condemns Pakistan attacks, urges tighter measures to address extremism


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned Sunday's dual terrorist attacks in Pakistan, that killed a total of at least 54 people. An armed assault on Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, reportedly killed at least 29 people, while suicide attacks targeting Shia pilgrims in Taftan, Baluchistan, left at least 25 people killed and scores more injured. Ban "is deeply concerned by this upsurge of violence across Pakistan," his press office said in a statement. "While acknowledging the measures already taken to maintain security, he urges the Government of Pakistan to further increase its efforts to address terrorism and religious extremism, including with a view to protecting the rights of all people to safely practice their religion," added the statement. He went on to urge the government to bring the perpetrators of such attacks to justice.
