Failure of Administration Compelled NCPO 'To Take Control of Thailand'

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Ngkok june 09 (qna) - undermining of thailand's executive legislative and judiciary branches compelled the national council for peace and order (ncpo) to take control of the country's administration on may 22 its chief said monday.

in a post published by the government of thailand head of ncpo general prayut chan-o-cha reiterates reasons why it was necessary to take control of the national administration.

"the most important reason was because we respect the democratic process" he said.

"our decision was based on the fact that the three main branches of national administration – the executive legislative and judiciary – were being undermined.

"we therefore have had to safeguard democracy. we came in to make our country stronger laying firmer foundations to prevent the structure from collapsing so that our country will be ready to move toward becoming a fully functioning democracy.

there was conflicting and overlapping working relationship between public private and business sectors and the civil society he said.

"this led to a situation where respect for the laws was scant. general laws were ineffective. special laws such as the internal security act emergency decree and martial law had to be invoked" chan-o-cha said.

we are trying to bring the country back to normal expand economic and social cooperation with our partners; and prepare ourselves for the asean community and aec in the near future he said.(qna)
