Taliban Claims Responsibility for Karachi Airport's Attack


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Lamabad june 09 (qna) - the pakistani taliban has claimed responsibility for an hours-long attack at the country's largest and busiest airport that killed at least 28 people.

"we carried out the attack on karachi airport to avenge the death of hakimullah mehsud" taliban spokesman shahidullah shahid said while dismissing the pakistani government's recent offer of peace talks as a "tool of war".

"pakistan used peace talks as a tool of war it killed hundreds of innocent tribal women and children. this is our first attack to avenge the death of hakimullah mehsud" he said.

mehsud was killed in a us drone strike in november in north waziristan.

bahar warned more attacks will follow.

late sunday night militants armed with guns grenades and suicide vests stormed the cargo area of the airport.

when it was over 28 people were dead -- including nine members of airport security forces.

all 10 militants involved in the attack were killed military spokesman maj. gen. asim bajwa said. two of them detonated suicide vests he said. (qna)
