UAE- Al Nasr reject Jazira's offer for Al Fardan

midfielder habib al fardan is set to stay at al nasr after the club rejected a formal offer from al jazira for their player al nasr club said.

al jazira who had hired a new coach in belgian eric gerets and replaced italian walter zenga were keen on bolstering their squad and had tabled offers for uae national team players habib al fardan and al ahli’s ismail al hammadi.

al jazira were ready with both options — buy the player or take him on a loan spell. but al nasr are not willing to do either. it was being said that al jazira were willing to spend big to land habib al fardan. reports said that if the deal was done it could be one of the most expensive in uae football history.

al nasr said that they had respected the offers but were keen on keeping habib al fardan in their ranks. al fardan has a contract with al nasr until the end of 2015 but would be up on the market during the january transfer window.

al nasr also said that the player had pledged his commitment to the club and was not keen on a move.

“there has been a lot of talk in recent days about offers from other clubs for habib al fardan. that has raised a few questions from within the club and the fans. we would like to make it clear that habib al fardan will be staying with al nasr. the player himself wants to remain at al nasr and has no intention to leave” al nasr said.

“we appreciate the offers from other clubs who have shown interest in habib al fardan. it shows that he is a great talent and is highly respected in uae football. but we want habib al fardan to continue with al nasr” the club added.

“habib al fardan and the rest of the team have been instrumental in al nasr winning the gcc gulf club championship and we intend to continue the journey together and achieve even more good results” the club said.

al nasr won the gcc gulf championship after defeating oman’s saham 2-1 to become the fifth uae club to win it in the last seven years. that ended a long 25-year wait for silverware. al nasr’s previous title was the prestigious president’s cup in 1989.

al nasr said that they will begin new contract talks to extend habib al fardan’s stay beyond 2015 and added that it will be done before the new season commences.

“habib al fardan has said that he wants to stay with the club for many more years. we will sign a new contract as soon as possible and put an end to any speculations that may arise. it will also make sure we are not distracted and we can focus on the new season” al nasr said.

after the gcc club champions final habib al fardan had said: “winning it is the best gift and an incentive for me to continue with al nasr. there is no better team than al nasr and i want to stay here. i am proud of wearing the al nasr jersey.”

habib al fardan started his career with al nasr in 2009.
