Sudan arrests opposition leader

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Sudan's opposition party said its leader has been caught by security forces in Kordofan State in west Sudan. The Sudanese opposition Congress Party said in a statement here on Sunday the party head Ibrahim al-Sheikh had been arrested. The arrest came just weeks after the detention of another opposition leader, Sadiq al-Mahdi. The party insisted on declining to join national dialogue recently called by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. But, the arrests are likely to hurt al-Bashir's national dialogue calls in order to ease out tension among Sudan's political parties ahead of parliamentary and presidential polls due next year.
