Qatar- Ministry's website bags award


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology's website (www.ictqatar.qa) has won the Gold Shield and Certificate of Excellence for Interactive Innovation in the category of government bodies' and official institutions' websites. This came at the Fifth Round of E-government Excellence Awards, member of Pan-Arab Excellence Awards Academy. The award was presented by the Dubai-based Arab Organisation for Social Responsibility and the Academy of Online Awards in the Arab region. During a ceremony in Dubai on Tuesday, Hussain Salatt, Public Relations and Communications Section Manager, Public Relations & Communications Department at the ministry, received the certificate. "We are happy with the award, which singles out the uniqueness of the ministry's website that is rich with Arabic and English content such as the ministry's programmes, ICT policies, public consultations, laws and regulations, periodical studies, researches and reports," he said. "Our website also features easily navigable heads and sub-heads that display official documents, national ICT strategies and blueprints, and audiovisual coverage of the ministry's activities, in compliance with the principle of transparency and openness." With high technical and editorial quality and supportive of all social media platforms, the website is a user-friendly, interactive portal with unique accessibility and navigation options for visitors regardless of visual, hearing, motor or cognitive impairments. The website complies with World Wide Web Consortium Level AA accessibility standards and is compatible with screen readers. It is easy to use and browse on any device and is supported by a multi-task, multiple-category search engine that makes it easier for users to get direct services, quick results and go beyond browsing the site for information. It also features key programmes and initiatives implemented by the ministry such as Qatar Assistive Technology Centre (Mada), Qatar e-Government Portal (Hukoomi), TumuhaTEC, Creative Commons Qatar and Digital Qatar blog.
