Italy's Alitalia eyes Etihad Airways in deal


(MENAFN) Troubled Italian airline Alitalia plans to convince Etihad Airways to become its biggest shareholder in a deal after examining the Abu Dhabi carrier's turnaround plan, according to Gulf News. Alitalia president Roberto Colaninno and chief executive Gabriele Del Torchio plans "to continue negotiations for the drafting of a definitive agreement with the UAE company," he said. Etihad said it has been negotiating for months to purchase 49 percent of the stricken Italian flag carrier, which is facing bankruptcy.
