Parliamentary Elections Begin in South Ossetia


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Khinvali june 08 (qna) - voting at the parliamentary elections in south ossetia has begun. the republic's central elections commission reports all the 73 polling stations in the republic and one polling station in the embassy in moscow opened at 08:00 moscow time on sunday.

the polling will be over at 20:00 moscow time. the republic has undertaken additional security measures. over 1100 police are working on the day. the elections commission has registered over 90 international observers according to russia's (itar-tass) news agency.

the central elections committee has published over 42 ballot bulletins. the same number of bulletins was published at the presidential elections in south ossetia in 2012. the names of more than 32000 voters are included in voter lists in south ossetia.

south ossetia's parliament has 34 seats. the elections are on the proportional basis. nine parties are running for mandates. the elections will be valid if over 50% of electors come to the polling stations. any party has to gain over 7% of the vote to receive seats. (qna)
