Iranian, US, Russian officials to hold nuclear talks this week


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iran is to hold bilateral talks with the US and Russia at the level of deputy foreign ministers ahead of the next round of Iran-P5+1 group nuclear talks, due to begin in Vienna, Austria, on June 16. The Iranian-US talks will be held in Geneva on Monday and Tuesday, June 9-10, while the talks with Russia will be held in Rome on June 10-11, the state IRNA news agency reported on Saturday, citing a statement by the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Earlier today Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Security and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi spoke about the bilateral talks without specifying their time and venue. The fifth round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany - known as the P5+1 - will be held in Vienna on June 16-20, according to the report. Expert-level talks between the two sides have been held on June 4-5 on the sidelines of the quarterly meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors also in Vienna. The meeting was co-chaired by Director General of Political and International Department of Foreign Ministry, Hamid Baeedinejad and EU top nuclear expert Stephan Klement. The previous round of talks last month aimed at drafting a final deal made no significant progress. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton also held an unofficial meeting in Istanbul on May 26 to explore ways to resolve remaining issues.
