Pakistan- 94 Balochistan students get USAID scholarships

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded scholarships to 94 students of Balochistan enrolled in the two-year Associated Degree in Education (ADE) and the four-year BEd Hons programmes. Addressing the scholarship distribution ceremony yesterday, Saira Aata, additional secretary education, said there were 12,500 government schools in 22,000 settlements across the province, adding that most were functioning with only a single teacher in a single room. "We are paying special attention to provide missing facilities to government-run schools and adequate funds have been allocated in this regard in the upcoming provincial budget," she said. The secretary said that majority of government teachers did not take classes though they drew their salaries regularly. Action would be taken against absentee and ghost teachers if they did not change their attitude, she warned. The government is committed to improving standard of education by ensuring professional training of teachers, she said. Irum Ayaz and Aslam Ali of the USAID project said that scholarships had been awarded to 94 students belonging to different districts of Balochistan and enrolled in ADE and BEd Hons programmes.
