(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) chief Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said that the huge international turnout at sports arbitration talks was clear evidence of their awareness on the importance of the matter.
Representatives from 115 countries throughout the continents of Asia, Africa and Oceania are gathered at the Olympic Council of Asia HQ in Kuwait for the major forum, which kicked off earlier in the day.
Sheikh Ahmed, also the OCA President, said during the evening session that the OCA held the event in order to discuss some important topics, and in response to many queries from National Olympic Committees (NOCs) on the legal aspects pertaining to the mechanism and duties of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
CAS has coordinated with the OCA the formation of a special committee which will be tasked with resolving disputes that may arise during the upcoming Asian Games scheduled to be held at Incheon, South Korea in September.
The measures are aimed at ensuring haste in dealing with cases and issuing verdicts during the event, thus saving time and effort in scrutinizing these cases after the event is concluded, said Sheikh Ahmed.
The session showcased presentations on CAS' Procedure and Jurisprudence by International Court of Arbitration member Richard Pound and on What a Party Should Know When Being Engaged in a Lawsuit before CAS by Xavier Favre-Bulle, Attorney at law from Swiss law firm Lenz and Staehelin.
CAS Arbitrator Luigi Fumagalli presented another on CAS Case Law in doping, followed by a presentation on CAS Jurisprudence in Football Matters by CAS Arbitrator Michele Bernasconi.
The forum will continue for a second day on Thursday and will discuss sports governance in relation to NOCs, dispute resolution mechanisms for NOCs, and sports governance and the autonomy of sport organisations in the light of the CAS case law.
