Anandi lashes out at Akhilesh government


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Gujarat?s first woman chief minister has raised many eyebrows by publicly lashing out at the akhilesh yadav-led uttar pradesh government over the recent brutal gang-rape and murder of two teen-aged girls in badaun district of the northern state.

in a post on the micro-blogging site twitter anandi patel (72) termed the incident and its aftermath as ‘unacceptable’ and said that it was the duty of state governments to protect women in their states.

“the happenings and aftermath in up (uttar pradesh) r (are) unacceptable...it is the duty of any govt any society anywhere in world to protect and empower women” tweeted prime minister narendra modi’s successor in her first public outburst against the samajwadi party regime. crimes against women are on the increase in gujarat especially ahmedabad with the state police registering three rape cases everyday. in 2010 at least 418 women were abducted with incidents of crimes with domestic violence against women zooming to 11478 up from 10039 cases in 2009 and 10152 in 2008.

according to a gujarat human rights commission report 2010 witnessed as many as 428 cases of rape 910 of molestation 21 dowry deaths and 6999 incidents involving physical and mental torture of women in different parts of the state.
