Bharatiya Janata Party leader turns priest


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A councillor of the ruling bharatiya janata party (bjp) and former deputy mayor of gujarat?s rajkot city who has a criminal background has renounced the world and turned a priest at an elaborate religious ceremony which was attended by chief minister anandiben patel four of her ministers and senior bjp leaders.

as many as 100000 people watched as 51-year-old narendra solanki vowed to abandon worldly and materialistic desires and dedicate his life to spiritual pursuits at chotila town 45km from ahmedabad after his guru applied a ‘tilak’ on his forehead.

the ceremony was held at a hermitage set up by the lawmaker himself to provide free lodging and boarding facilities to pilgrims visiting the town. about 150 couples tied the knot at a mass wedding ceremony held simultaneously at the retreat.

while solanki has taken ‘sanyas’ in the true spirit of the tradition he has been given exemption to meet his family members till his son and daughter are married but he will remain dedicated to social service.
