Zakat drive for cancer patients in the UAE


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The friends of cancer patients society focp has launched its 2014 zakat campaign to raise funds in aid of cancer patients in the uae.

last year 169 cancer patients benefited from the funds generated through the drive. the focus of the zakat fund-raising campaign is to help people suffering from various types of cancer in the uae especially those who are unable to afford the expensive costs of treatment.

ameera binkaram president of the board of trustees and a founding member of the focp said: “zakat has been a tremendous source of hope for thousands of cancer patients in the uae who need support to get through this life-changing illness. we are eternally grateful for the significant contributions received and are appreciative of the individuals and corporate houses for their generous donations to the zakat campaign allowing us to save more lives.”

some of the costs covered through the zakat initiative include medication mainly chemotherapy and radiation costs medical expenses from early detection to surgery the cost of procedures done abroad such as bone marrow transplants and the provision of prosthetic limbs and other medical equipment. each case is individually reviewed and approved in accordance with the focp regulations and zakat rules.
