(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Syrian Presidential Political and Media Advisor Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban said on Monday that contacts are underway with some Arab, Gulf and western countries as well as the opposition leaders in exile in order to reach national reconciliation.
"Reconciliation is a pan-Syrian solution and a genuine political one; that solution, for us, is going forward for more reconciliation," SANA news agency quoted her as saying in an interview to Al-Mayadin TV on the eve of the presidential election.
"There are some opposition figures who wish to return to Syria and dialogue with them is in progress," she affirmed.
Commenting on the recent truce deals with opposition forces in some areas, she said similar reconciliation talks will be reached in Damascus countryside, Daraa, Homs countryside, Deir Az-Zour, and Aleppo countryside.
On the planned Geneva III Conference, she said there is no preparation for it since the political track is suspended due to the fact that the Geneva process did not result in anything.
"The Syrian government accepted Geneva before anyone else, but the problem was in the fragmentation of the opposition," Shaaban explained.
Regarding the presidential polls, she said they will be held tomorrow in continuation of the Syrian people's defiance of external hostile designs.
