(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Oul june 02 (qna) - south korean president park geun-hye said monday that south korea's national security is at a critical point considering the regional situation and ceaseless threats and provocations by the north.
she made the remarks on monday while introducing her new national security adviser kim kwan-jin at a weekly meeting of senior secretaries south korean radio (kbs) world reported.
park's remarks come amid fear of a fourth nuclear test by north korea and recent artillery fire by the north near a south korean warship in the yellow sea.
there has also been apprehension over north korea’s agreement to investigate the abduction of japanese citizens in order to have some of its sanctions lifted by japan in return.
concerns arise that the recent agreements may cause cracks in cooperation among south korea the u.s. and japan against the north's nuclear program.
park asked kim to pay full attention to establishing the national security posture and its follow-up measures so that south korean people may be put at ease. (qna)
