(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Jordanian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday two new cases of fatality and infection from the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
The new death case was a 69 year-old patient who has been staying at a hospital for a period of time, suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes. He was infected with MERS-CoV a week ago, Jordanian Director of Communicable Diseases at Jordan's health ministry Dr. Mohammad Abdullat was quoted by Petra News Agency as saying, adding that the death toll increased to six cases.
Abdullat also said the new case of infection, 11th in total, was a 26 year-old health staff member who worked in another hospital, and whose lab tests showed he had contracted MERS-CoV as he showed symptoms of fever and pulmonary infection but was in a stable condition and was receiving treatment at the hospital.
Moreover, the Jordanian official noted that a team from his department had carried out the necessary epidemic survey to identify the people he had come in contact with, either within the family or among the health staff, who had dealt with the case, added PETRA.
