(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun stopped by Port Sultan Qaboos recently to take on valuable supplies, logistics support and technical assistance, in addition to providing some welcome relief to its sailors with visits to local galleries and shopping complexes.
While in port, USS Truxtun's sailors took advantage of recreational opportunities provided by local hotels and restaurants, and visited the Bait al Zubair Museum and shopping malls. Sailors also had the opportunity to see local marine life, enjoying 'swimming and snorkelling off the Oman coast', stated a US Navy release.
"USS Truxtun left Muscat in a better condition than it arrived, thanks to the excellent support we received. The tours of cultural and scenic places of interest were especially liked,'' said Cmdr Drew Bates, USS Truxtun's commanding officer.
The destroyer is currently deployed in the region conducting maritime security patrols, primarily attached to the George HW Bush carrier strike group, and part of the US Navy's fifth fleet area of responsibility.
