Qatar- Al Ahli retain striker Dioko, sign Al Qadi


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Stars League club Al Ahli have managed to secure the services of Alain Dioko last season's top scorer. Dioko, had many clubs vying for his signature after an exceptional campaign last season. The front man who is due to end his contract at the end of next season reassured fans that he would honour his contract with the club. Meanwhile, Al Ahli have secured the services of Al Wakra defender Abdul Al Qadi. For Al Ahli, this is their third signings after Mohammed El Hadj and Abdulaziz Al Yahari from Umm Salal. Milan Málala the head coach of Al Ahli advised the club to buy more local players to bolster the squad as they look to do even better than their sixth placed finish last season. Meanwhile, El Jaish will loan more players to Umm Salal. El Jaish midfielder Diab Annabi will go on loan for the entire QSl season of 2014-15. He becomes the fifth player to move from the Army side to Umm Salal over the summer break. The club is looking to pick up where they left off after a strong surge in the second half of QSL last season. By renewing the contract of head coach Bulent Uygun the club has indicated that they are happy with the Turk. The team will look to integrate new players and aim to do even better than there seventh place finish last season. Secretary for Umm Salal Sports Affairs Ali Amin will travel to Dresden, Germany where he will make all the necessary requirements for pre-season training. The team will fly out to Germany on August 1 and return on 15 after working on their fitness and playing a number of friendly matches. Elsewhere, at Al Arabi Sports Club football dominated the discussions at the General Assembly The club held its annual general assembly yesterday. The results and the general path that the football team had taken over the years featured strongly in the talks. The meeting was headed by President of the club Hitmi bin Ali Al Hitmi, the Vice President Ahmed Al Malki, the General club Secretary Dr Ahmed Al Emadi, the club Treasurer Abdullah Mahmood, the Vice General Secretary Mohammed Mabrook, Board members Abdul Rahman Al Kahlifi and Ahmed Hilal Al Khalifi and the Director of Sports Affairs for the Olympic Committee Khalil Al Jaber. Hitmi bin Ali Al Hitmi the club President said that although the fifth position achieved by the team wasn't bad, at the same time it wasn't good enough either. He added that the fifth place finish didn't match with the ambitions of the club and its fans. "The club's efforts next season will therefore be doubled to lead the team to glory and compete directly for the titles because Al Arabi is a big club in Qatar," Al Hitmi said. He explained to the General Assembly how the team will gear up for the upcoming season and win titles. He emphasised on the need to buy foreign players who are able to deliver good results for the club.
