Oman inflation rises 1.53 in April


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's inflation rate grew 1.53 per cent in April 2014 when compared with the same period last year. On a month-on-month basis prices were up 0.58 per cent. 

According to the ‘Consumer Price Index Report' issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the food and non-alcoholic beverages segment prices rose by 2.54 per cent, while housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels grew by 1.65 per cent. Education costs recorded an increase of 6.3 per cent. Health costs rose by 6.01 per cent, communication costs by 0.14 per cent, and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance prices were up 7.52 per cent.

In addition, clothing and footwear grew by one per cent, hotels and restaurants costs increased by 1.28 per cent, recreation and culture costs by 0.19 per cent, and miscellaneous goods and services grew by 0.58 per cent. Transport costs registered a decline of 0.59 per cent.

On a monthly basis, communication costs increased by 4.99 per cent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.25 per cent, health costs by 3.58 per cent, transport costs by 0.82 per cent, and household equipment and routine household maintenance by 6.2 per cent. Food and non-alcoholic beverages record­ed a decline of 0.72 per cent.
