China's freight transport volume up 8.9 percent


(MENAFN) New data showed that China's total volume of freight transport has increased 8.9 percent in the January-April period of 2014 at a slower pace amid economic slowdown, QNA reported. According to the National Development and Reform Commission, the volume of freight transport by road stood at 11.5 billion tons in the first four months, up 8.9 percent over a year earlier. During the cited period, a total of 1.61 billion tons of cargo were carried on waterways, up 6.3percent from a year ago, while the railway freight stood at 1.26 tons, down 3.3 percent compared to the same period last year.
