Syria- Barrel bombs kill 45 people in Aleppo


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At Least 45 people were killed, including six opposition fighters, when government aircraft dropped barrel bombs on the opposition-held areas in the northern city of Aleppo, announced Saturday the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). In a press statement, SOHR said that the regime forces continue intensive use of the indiscriminate weapon of barrel bombs in Aleppo over the past six months. The barrel bombs have claimed the lives of nearly 2000 people in the Aleppo and its countryside since the start of 2014 till May 29th and destroyed nearly 40 percent of the city buildings, SOHR said. Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory reported that an explosion was also heard in Aleppo's old city, expected to be of a destruction of a tunnel, then a barrage of rockets landed at a number of the government forces-held neighborhoods in the city. SOHR stated that heavy clashes raged between government and opposition forces in the southern city of Deraa where the government forces have been carrying out a massive operation to enter and wrestle control over the city over more than two weeks. In the central city of Hama, SOHR unveiled that the opposition fighters have managed to seize Tal Salba checkpoint after an intensive battle in which the government forces incurred huge human losses.
