UAE officials hold talks with German FM on "partnership," regional issues


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, held talks on Saturday with visiting German Foreign Minister Dr. Frank Walter Steinmeier, dealing with regional and international affairs, the official news agency, WAM, said. The two sides discussed bilateral relations, means of cementing these ties, German-UAE strategic cooperation in shadow of the mutual interests in the economic, educational, business and political realms. WAM also quoted UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan as saying during a joint news conference with the visiting German minister that Abu Dhabi attaches particular concern to the German-UAE relationship, the two sides' strategic partnership, cemented since more than four decades ago. The partnership between the two countries is comprehensive and vital, covering various sectors, Sheikh Abdullah said, adding that it is based on joint interests and mutual respect. Sheikh Abdullah added at the news conference that he had held talks with Steinmeier, tackling regional conditions, necessity to maintain stability in Egypt and shoring up this nation's economy. The discussions, he added, also dealt with negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 states on Tehran nuclear issue, necessity to maintain the Middle East peace process, bolstering efforts to fight extremism and violence and enhancing principles of tolerance and moderation in the region. The German official for his part expressed concern at conditions in Syria and said his country "understands necessity of the Iranian nuclear file for the region." Trade exchanges between the UAE and Germany were in the range of euro 10 billion last year.
