Pakistan confronts protests, cross border firing on military post

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Pakistan blocked a protest and attack on a military post in northern Bajaur Agency tribal region bordering Afghanistan by over 200 terrorists crossing from the Afghan side, Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement Saturday. Pakistan Foreign Office said, "Pakistan military post at Nao Top (Bajaur Agency) came under fire raid and physical attack early this morning by over 200 terrorists crossing from the Afghan side." "During the attack, one Pakistani soldier was killed while two were seriously injured," the statement added. Pakistan filed a complaint through Pakistan Ambassador in Kabul and also took up the matter with the Afghan Foreign Ministry. The statement noted that "to repulse the terrorist attack, Pakistan troops responded with artillery and aviation support." "Any allegations about shelling on Afghan civilians inside Afghanistan are incorrect. The Pakistan aviation only fired on attacking terrorists," the statement added. Pakistan Foreign Office expressed hope that effective steps would be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents. Pakistan's concerns about miscreants and terrorists attacking from the other side of the border have been repeatedly shared with Afghan authorities, the statement said. Pakistan vowed to continue to exercise restraint and make efforts to maintain conducive environment for constructive engagement.
