Qatar- HMC to observe blood donors day


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will commemorate the World Blood Donors Day (WBDD) 2014 with several activities and a gala dinner at St Regis Doha Hotel on June 11. More than 380 voluntary blood donors including individuals, national institutions, cultural and youth organizations that have positively contributed to enriching of Blood Donor Unit stock of blood and blood components will be recognized at the event. Local and regional guests as well as many senior officials and notable guests are expected to attend the event. WBDD, which falls on June 14, is being marked this year under the theme: 'Safe Blood for Saving Mothers." HMC has thanked sponsors and supporters of its upcoming WBDD 2014 activities. Mohamed Al Noimi, Chief of Communications and Chief of Staff for the Managing Director's Office at HMC, received checks from representatives of all the official sponsors including five platinum sponsors with each offering QR150,000; and three gold sponsors offering QR100,000. The platinum sponsors for 2014 are: Qatar Petrochemical (Qapco), Qatar Petroleum (QP), Qatar Steel, Qatar Electricity and Water Company, and Qatargas Operating Company. Gold sponsors are: Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Qatar Chemical Company Ltd. (Q-Chem) and Al Darwish United Group. Sidiqa Ismail Al Mahmoudi, coordinator of blood donors' affairs at HMC, emphasized the importance of the annual event and expressed gratitude and appreciation on behalf of HMC to all sponsors of WBDD 2014 celebration. "The HMC Blood Donor Unit, with the support of national institutions and companies, are working to create a pioneering community partnership in Qatar. We will organize a gala event to honor voluntary blood donors and create new cultural and educational programs and activities among various community sectors," Al Mahmoudi said. HMC Blood Donor Unit has achieved excellence for the fourth year in a row by maintaining the highest rate (100 percent) in voluntary blood donation throughout the region.
