(MENAFN - Arab News) Mohamed maskati is the founder of naqsh gallery and possesses a wealth of experience in design and branding that he gained working with international branding and advertising agencies. the understanding of local culture and international trends along with his deep insight into brand posture and longevity allowed him to develop and nurture a number of regional brands in saudi arabia and bahrain.

maskati's gallery opened in 2011 when he wanted to create a platform for artists where they could showcase their work. 'it is very difficult to come across a platform that is driven by an arabic flavor or houses calligraphy work. there was a gap in our industry and hence the birth of naqsh" said maskati. ara news met with maskati to learn more about his gallery its goal aim and future plans.

what first interested you in art?

art has always been a big influence in my life and i have always been fascinated about this world since my childhood. my love for arts grew as i began experimenting in arts throughout my school years. it is a passion that drives me to excel. i have used my love for art as a platform to connect people and share culture and experiences. to me art is about bridging gaps and communities.

tell us about your gallery and why did you name it naqsh?

naqsh in arabic means to etch. my vision is to 'etch' the gallery across our community the public and the region. i want to develop a brand name that is synonymous with arabic art and calligraphy. when someone says naqsh they will unconsciously think of arabic art. for instance when the word oud comes to mind you immediately think of the arabic perfume.

what is the aim and goal of the gallery?

my aspiration is to focus on providing high-end artworks for corporate houses and individuals and also be one of the most sought out suppliers of art thereby promoting local artists and the art of the region. we have amazing talent in the region and our mission is to connect the artists with the community.

what kind of art do you exhibit in your gallery?

we mainly focus on arabic and islamic inspired arts however we also host artists from across the world to introduce the public to other cultures.

your gallery promotes local talents. what about international ones?

we have a place for everyone at naqsh. we recently hosted an exhibition for maryam omran from saudi arabia. we have under our belt hosted exhibitions for artists from the region mainly oman and qatar and international artists from china.

how do you discover these talents?

we receive a great amount of requests from artists around the kingdom and the gcc who wish to exhibit their art in our gallery. we also receive referrals and recommendations from other artists to exhibit the artwork of their fellow artists.

who are the artists that you target to exhibit in your gallery?

naqsh gallery strives to associate itself with well-known artists in the region as well as emerging and new artists. currently naqsh gallery is associated with artists such as areej rajab mohsen ghareeb aymanjaffer and many more.

how do you promote your gallery and your artists?

our gallery and artists are promoted through regular exhibitions that are held in our gallery or through exhibitions held throughout the gcc. social media is another approach used to promote our gallery and artists to a wider range of audience.

what is the role of social media in marketing your gallery?

social media is considered one of the main platforms to market and an efficient way to showcase the work of emerging artists and also to showcase the naqsh gallery brand; it allows to gain major exposure in the region and worldwide.

what are you working on right now?

right now naqsh gallery is preparing for a trade show in jeddah and dubai.

what is next for your gallery and the artists?

we will be looking for more artists for naqsh gallery and we will get involved with more exhibitions in order to display more artwork and increase our art collections. we are also aiming to collaborate with international galleries in the coming future.
