(MENAFN - Arab News) Filipinos in the kingdom have expressed shock anger and desire for justice for a compatriot who had been reported to have been beaten raped and left in the desert in riyadh.
the incident has been reported to the philippine embassy which sent a representative to visit him at the hospital where he's in serious condition.
the victim has been identified as mckornic rabina from bukidnon.
benny m. quiambao a filipino community leader in riyadh said: 'what happened to him shows sheer cruelty and man's disregard for human life. justice must be served."
he said: 'this is one reason why many have been saying that the philippine government should not send ofws to the kingdom anymore particularly household service workers (hsws) such as housemaids."
from alkhobar florencio m. catanus finance and payroll manager at audhali law firm commented: 'what happened is shocking to all ofws particularly to the victim's relatives back home in the philippines."
charles b. tabbu it manager at saudi arabian marketing agencies comp. in jeddah said: 'authorities in the kingdom and in the philippines should endeavor to work together to solve the case so that justice could be served."
filipinos have also posted angry reactions on the internet seeking justice for rabina.
in a report the abs-cbn middle east news bureau referred to him merely as 'mario" clarifying that it was not his real name.
concerned filipino nurses had taken pity on rabina when he was brought to the hospital.
a friend of the victim junji robles identified the victim after nurses posted his photo on facebook
he was initially comatose and didn't have any identification.
'i was the first one to identify him. he is my compatriot from bukidnon" the report quoted robles as saying.
the report also said that the victim works as a service crew of an ice cream chain inside a mall and he had just returned from the philippines.
cecilia jamila another friend of the victim said that she last saw rabina in the commercial district of batha.
the victim was found by authorities in the early hours of may 16 reportedly naked and fighting for his life.
he had sustained serious head injuries and suffered multiple bone fractures and was under observation for possible hemorrhage.
while the victim was still having difficulties in speaking and moving he was able to scribble down words that would help identify his attackers said the report.
according to jamila the victim wrote down that he was arrested in batha.
'after that he was brought to malaz. there he was asked if how many attacked him" jamila said adding that he was able to give a brief detail in writing of what the suspects did to him.
'he was beaten up and raped" jamila added.
the philippine embassy had contacted the victim's employer.
