S. Korea posts USD7.12b current account surplus in April

(MENAFN) Central bank data showed that South Korea posted a current account surplus for 26 consecutive months in April led by monthly exports, which account for around half of the economy, Xinhua reported. According to the Bank of Korea (BOK), current account surplus reached USD7.12 billion in April, keeping a surplus trend since March 2012 when the balance turned gloomy. Exports increased 10 percent over a year earlier to USD56.72 billion in the cited period, the highest since the related data began to be compiled by the central bank. "The trade surplus for goods expanded on strong exports of cars and steel products amid economic recovery in the United States and Europe," a BOK official said.
