(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The polling stations across Egypt closed doors at 9:00 p.m. (local time) on Wednesday - the third and final day of the presidential elections, giving way to the vote counting process.

The late hours of voting saw a relatively higher turnout, according to the state-run TV.

The vote counting is overseen by heads of the 13,899 subsidiary polling stations who are scheduled to present reports on the results to the 352 general committees which will, in turn, report to the high election committee.

Representatives of the presidential hopeful Hamdeen Sabbahi reportedly pulled out from polling stations earlier today in protest against what they deemed as legal violations by the campaign of Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi.

Commenting on these reports, an insider of the high election committee said the withdrawal of Sabbahi's delegates does not affect the legality of the electoral process.

Preliminary results show that Al-Sisi, ex-army chief, is winning by landslide.

Minister of Interior applauded as excellent the performance of the military and police personnel in protecting the process.

He added, in statements to the MENA news agency, that the joint policy-military operation to protect the ballot boxes, the judges and election monitors, will continue until the announcement of the final results before June 5.
