Oman exports total RO1.8bn in January


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The value of Omani exports, which includes oil and gas, non-oil products and re-exports, totalled RO1.77bn in January 2014, a decline of 8.1 per cent compared with RO1.92bn in January 2013.

Recently released trade and export statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reveal an 8.2 per cent decline in oil and gas exports in January 2014, from RO1.27bn in January 2013 to RO1.17bn in the month under review. During the same period, the total value of re-exports declined by 21.9 per cent, recording re-exports of RO249.1mn in January 2014 against the January 2013 total of RO319.1mn.

Within the export categories, the only increase recorded was in non-oil exports, which grew by 6.1 per cent, totaling RO346.6mn in January 2014, compared with RO326.5mn in January 2013.

The growth in non-oil exports was due to a 79.5 per cent increase in mineral product exports, which grew from RO89.8mn in January 2013 to RO161.2mn in January 2014.

Total merchandise imports through sea, land and air outlets declined by 6.8 per cent in January 2014, totalling RO943mn, against RO1.01bn in January 2013. The total volume of merchandise imports by weight also dropped by 15.4 per cent in January 2014, totalling 1.75mn tons, against 2.06mn tons in January 2013.

The total amount of merchandise imports through sea outlets declined in January 2014 to RO620.1mn, compared with RO726.9mn in January 2013, a decline of 14.7 per cent.

The value of merchandise imports through land outlets grew by 25.2 per cent, totalling RO260mn in January 2014, while merchandise imports via air outlets declined by 19.1 per cent in January 2014, totalling RO62.8mn.
