Kuwait to host ALECSO's 23rd general conf. in 2016


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait is to host the 23rd general conference of the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) in 2016, it was announced Tuesday. The announcement, made by head of the Kuwaiti delegation, assistant undersecretary for financial affairs at the ministry of education Fahad Al-Ghais at the opening session of ALECSO's 22nd general conference earlier today, was received with a heart-warming standing ovation. "This reflects Kuwait's esteemed status in the Organization. Kuwait has not and will not spare any effort to contribute to developing education in the Arab world," Al-Ghais told KUNA after the session. This year's conference was launched earlier today under the auspices of interim president Moncef Marzouki. In his keynote speech at the conference, president Marzouki stressed on significance of education as "utmost priority to development of peoples and nations at all levels. "People around the world are searching for best methods to finance and evaluate educational systems, as well as best means to match outcomes of the educational institution and demands of the job market in order to face unemployment. "This calls for a precise diagnosis of the current status of the educational institution as a whole, in collaboration with UNESCO, so as to have a more effective, integrated, democratic and transparent educational syste," he noted. On his part, ALECSO's Director General Dr. Abdullah Mhareb, of Kuwait, said proposals by the organization's committees aimed at developing work of the Arab League body to cope with the information technology revolution as well as realizing the 2017-22 plan. An Arab cultural TV channel and giving priority on following educational, cultural and scientific conditions in certain countries like Somalia were also of the Organization's future tasks. The two-day conference is expected to discuss, among other key issues, the 2015-2016 budget, as well as plight of Syrian refugee students.
