(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Exhibiting brutal punching power, Adebayo Tunde Aderogba yesterday beat Naser Abdulrehman in their light welterweight bought on day one of the 2014 Doha Open Championships.
In another bout staged at Qatar SC Indoor Hall, Ahmed Amer outshone Mohamed Amir in their light fly category (46-49kg) to move into today's final rounds.
Punching with precision, Aderogba clearly dominated the three rounds against Abdulrehman who buckled under a barrage of punches from the seasoned campaigner in the 64-kg class.
Aderogba sealed his win with a 2-1 card in his favour from the judges using a new scoring system introduced by world body AIBA.
In another fight, Zouhar Hamdan Mahmoud proved his excellence over Abdalnaser Abada in their welter weight class restricted to boxers in the 69kg category.
Also yesterday in the junior categories, Abdulah Murad beat Atout Ahmed Ousaama with a 3-0 card in the bantam class (56kg). Houseen Jawad also claimed victory with a technical knockout against Abdulah Badr in the 60kg class.
In the welterweight category for boxers falling in the 69kg class, Mahjoub Ahmed got a TKO against Abderlghafour Jalal.
In the seniors' class, Getachew Molla proved too skillful for Jomah Arbabi Othman, winning their 56kg bantam fight with a 3-0 card.
In the 75kg class, Nabah Hazem crushed Lahbal Reda while Alghanem Karem knocked Al Shami Firas in the super heavy category (+91kg).
Al Tom Had (75kg) and Alouafi Azedine (+91kg) got walkovers against their rivals.
Qatar Boxing Federation (QBF) is staging the two-day event.
Yousuf Ali Al Kazim, President of QBF, said Qatar's national boxing squad will be seen in action today's final rounds.
"We are looking for youngsters who can take up this sport seriously. Anyone who we feel has the talent, will be given full support by Qatar Boxing Federation to enhance their profile as boxers," Al Kazim said on Monday.
The QBF chief also expressed resolve to make the event, which has been resumed after six years, an annual competition.
Today's final rounds will commence at 4:30pm at the same venue.
