Palestinian unity govt tomorrow

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Palestinian interim unity government will be sworn in tomorrow before President Mahmoud Abbas, a Palestinian official said yesterday. "Abbas will announce the new government himself and then it will be sworn in on Thursday," the official said, reported Xinhua news agency. The current Prime Minister Rami Al Hamdallah will lead the future government and he will also be given the disputable portfolio of interior minister, the official said. He added that the current foreign and finance ministers will be present in the upcoming consensus government. Earlier, Fatah and Hamas leaders held a meeting in Gaza to put the final touches on the new cabinet lineup. A similar meeting was held in Gaza on Monday. In April, Hamas and Fatah movements announced a reconciliation agreement to end a Palestinian political rift that started when Hamas took over Gaza in June 2007.
