(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Handicraft produced by women at Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan will feature at Qatar Red Crescent's (QRC) 'Bazaar of Hope' which opens on Thursday at the Souq Waqif Art Centre.
Under the theme 'Together for Humanity', the three-day exhibition aims at generating funds for Syrian women and their families at the camp and encouraging talents.
In a statement, QRC Secretary-General Saleh bin Ali Al Mohannadi, thanked the centre for the gesture.
He highlighted QRC's efforts to provide Syrian brothers everywhere - Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, and Iraqi Kurdistan - with assistance whether financial, psychological, social, healthcare, or educational, to help improve their living conditions and enable them to withstand their distress.
Noura Al Kuwari, Art Researcher at the centre, said, "'Our Hearts Are With You' is the new campaign of the centre. Believing in the importance of socio-humanitarian aspects of society, we welcome QRC to the bazaar for the Syrian people."
This is one of the series of QRC programmes for Syrian refugees. Its strategy is based on occupational therapy through a crafting project for Zaatari women, managed and sponsored by QRC, which secured necessary supplies and requirements.
The project is also designed to provide socio-psychological support for women who have difficulty coping with their lives amid severe conditions due to the war, destruction and homelessness.
Beside the revenue, the project also helps beneficiaries occupy their free time and utilise skills and energy to help themselves and their families.
The negative psychological impact of their adverse circumstances will be replaced with positive thinking that stimulates them to make their lives better and revives their hopes in shifting from idleness and depression to a sense of productivity and adaptation despite hardships.
Under the project 135 Zaatari women were trained in handcrafting. Over two months, they produced nearly 300 items.
The fair will be open from 8.30am to 9.30pm.
