Oman extends visa ban for sales, marketing jobs by six months

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Manpower (MoM) has extended by another six months the ban on issuance of visas for sales and marketing professionals and camel keepers in the private sector. The decision comes into effect on June 1.

With two separate Ministerial Decisions issued in November 2013 and which came into effect from December 1, the ministry had stopped issuing fresh visas in these categories.

In Ministerial Decision 121/2014 issued on May 18, H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, citing Royal Decree 35/2003 on the Labour Law and decision 608/2013 which enforced the initial ban, issued a statement to extend by another six months the ban on recruitment of non-Omani salesperson, sales promoters and purchasing agents in the private sector.

The ministerial order stated that the decision does not apply to establishments rated as ‘excellent' and ‘international'.

In another decision (120/2014), also issued by H E Bakri on May 18, an order was issued to extend the ban on recruitment of non-Omani camel keepers for another six months. However, in both cases, MoM allows issuance of replacement visas.

Both the decisions will come into effect from June 1. In a similar decision, MoM had in April extended the ban on visas for construction workers and cleaners for six months in the private sector, which became effective May 4. The initial six month ban period started on November 1, 2013.<
