Two Oman Sail sites recognised at 2014 Web Awards

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Sail's expertise in building attention-grabbing websites was once again recognised in the 2014 Oman Web Awards when they scooped two bronze awards for their Laser World Championships (www.omanlaserworlds2013. com) and SeaOman websites (www.seaoman.com).

Just one year after their Go- Musandam portal was voted the region's best sports website, their Muscat edition of the Laser World Championships, created entirely by their talented inhouse digital team, won plaudits for its achievements in reaching a high end sporting audience across the globe.

The Laser World Championships, which were held in Musannah at the end of 2013, are a premium sailing event attracting some of the top Olympic sailors, past, present and future, in the world. Over a six-week period, more than 390 sailors travelled to Oman from 52 different nations to participate in the three World Championships, bringing their support teams, friends and families with them to stay at the Mussanah Sports City complex.

To keep sports fans up to date on all the action from all three events, there was a live blog on the website with reports direct from the race track. The website had more than 361,340 page views and 119,065 sessions from launch with traffic from the UK, US, Germany, Australia, Oman and Italy. SeaOman was the other Oman Sail website to gain recognition in 2014 for its ingenuity and creativity in presenting the company's wide range of commercial offerings such as sailing, diving, charter, watersport activities and holiday packages.

Traffic has been generated mainly from Oman, UK, United Arab Emirates and France. ''These websites were the result of hours and hours of work, by our teams so we are delighted to see their efforts honoured at the Oman Web Awards,'' said Salma al Hashmi, director of Marketing and Communication, Oman Sail.

''The award for the Laser World Championships reflects the success of the event itself which we are happy to say earned 100 per cent positive review from everyone who attended. In terms of quality and quantity, the LWC audience fell entirely within our demographic target group. ''Hosting these premium global sporting events is something we are aiming to do more of and getting the digital support right, in terms of website and social media, is crucial to that aim so this recognition means a great deal.''

Oman Web Awards, now in its eighth year were created to recognise designers and developers from the Sultanate as a means of setting new benchmarks in innovation and excellence and raising their profile around the world.
