Hollande calls crisis meeting of top ministers after European vote

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) French Socialist President Francois Hollande has called a previously unscheduled "crisis" meeting of his senior ministers after the serious setback his party suffered on Sunday's European Parliament elections and the resounding victory in that ballot by the extreme-right "Front National" party. Official sources said Hollande was calling in Prime Minister Manual Valls for consultations first thing on Monday morning. Valls will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, Government Spokeman Stepane Le Foll, as well the Interior, Finance and European Affairs Ministers. The Front National party, led my Marine Le Pen, finished first and did better than expected in the European elections Sunday, gathering over 25 percent of votes that will likely guarantee about 25 seats in the new European Parliament. The Socialists and their allies polled under 15 percent, according to estimates Sunday night.
