Jordan plans to build 2 uranium extraction plants

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Director General of the Jordanian uranium mining comoany Samer Al-Qahouq said Sunday his country plans to launch two plants for extracting uranium. "The total cost of the two plants, to be built in central Jordan, amounts to USD 140 million," he told a press conference here. "The first station will be an experimental one and the second will produce 300-400 tons of uranium a year in the first stage," Al-Qahouq said. He added that the project will be implemented in collaboration with a foreign strategic partner. The Kingdom has uranium reserves estimated at 71,000 tons including 28,000 tons in the central region, according to a report presented to the Cabinet last week.
